Ok, so it’s not actually a British version of Jersey Shore but ‘The Only Way Is Essex‘ (TOWIE) follows the same premise of showing real people in modified situations without a script but in a structured way – and it’s now available on Hulu Plus.
The BAFTA award winning TOWIE is based in Essex, a county just outside East London and follows the lives, loves and scandals of several young Adults, namely Kirk Norcross, Amy Childs, Mark Wright, Jessica Wright, Lauren Goodger, Samantha Faiers, James Argent, Lydia Rose Bright and Harry Derbidge.
The action centres around the towns of Brentwood, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell, parts of Essex that are well known for having residents with lots of money but no taste or style. The regular cast are constantly plastered over the front pages of the British tabloids for one reason or another and the series has been required viewing for millions of Brits, although the vast majority would never actually own up to having watched the show!
TOWIE went live on the ad supported version of Hulu this week and was the most requested show so don’t be surprised if you hear a few Essex phrases coming up in conversation. Speaking as someone that has watched the show all I can say is, America you started it with The Jersey Shore so don’t blame us for sending TOWIE your way!
So ‘shuut upp’ get ‘well jel’ and prepare to be ‘vajassled’. (This will make sense when you watch it!)
